The roads are great.. strange going past all the small towns that I am used to seeing on the motorway as being service stops.. knowing the names and going through them but not knowing the countryside is a strange event.. cycling certainly helps you to notice the lay of the land a lot better.. Took a quiet road to Windermere instead of the main road, which was a little hilly but the lack of traffic made it worth it.. was a long run from Ambleside to Langdale.. when we got to there, the campsite was right at the end of the valley, and there was no mobile reception. All calls would have to be made from Ambleside.
Rain. Pouring with rain in the morning, with Gale force winds on the top of the hills, cloud base at about 200meters. The rivers were overflowing to cross on the way up the east side of the pike, having to wade through one that had totally obscured the path.. called the day off as suicide 30 mins later, having made it to just under the ridge. The river had risen 6 inches when we got back.. we made the right decision. Arrived back at camp cold wet and tired.
