I managed to get an early start to the day, and found the right trains to catch, making it to the Dance Factory 40 minutes before the appointed start date. Another dancer arrived shortly after me, and I was waiting outside.
This dancer was Australian but living in Finland, so she thought it was too cold to be waiting outside, while I thought it was too hot to be waiting inside ... it was a great contrast and we enjoyed the humour of that.
We talked about how good the practice is, and discussed situations of being in crowds. While I was describing a situation I realised it was very much like the stacatto part of a wave, which gave me some new insight in to why the situation arises.
The class started, and the morning wave was focussed on flowing. This was a really good start to the workshop really, because in order to understand any of the 5 rhythms, it is important to understand the flow.
We enjoyed some lunch, and I got talking to a few of the other dancers. I met someone who had started dancing just from watching Gabrielle's videos. She has only been to 7 workshops, but spends so much time dancing on her own that I could see she was comfortable moving in her body.
After lunch, we went through a Stacatto wave, which was deliciously expressive, and energetic. Having just done a Stacatto workshop the previous weekend I was able to easily get in to the groove, but I still learned new aspects of the rhythm :)
I made it back to the B+B and was very hungry, as I had made sure to eat lightly through the day so I could move a lot (It is hard to dance on a full stomach!) I had a cold shower to recover my muscles, and headed out to Mount Everest, a Nepalese restaurant by the station. I had a very filling chef's special, which had various cooked meats, including some Kofta, chargrilled pork and king prawns, all cooked in nice herbs served with rice and salad... Yummy!
