East Europe 2011
A short hop to Dresden, Leipzig and Prague to visit friends

I went to Eastern Europe at the end of September, to meet with a long time net.friend (net.twin even!) of mine, who happened to be in the area. The weather was amazing, and it was a very relaxing break :) Photos are now up!

I woke up nice and early without an alarm, and had a lazy morning, it is overcast and cold!
Took slow wake up and organised hostel in leipzig, definitely need a new phone, the blackberry browser is terrible!
Went out on bike in to altstadt, around king's wall, frauenkirsche and., then along Elbe on south side to photo the japanese palace
Back to the old palace and crossed to north and downstream past city beach
Sat in the now blazing sun, then decided to head back to Prießnitz Straße to get rid of jacket and apply sun cream!
Just leaving to meet Wilma for lunch but she calls to say she has no time, so I stayed @ flat so she could get t-shirt for her niece's do tomorrow (I have the keys just now)
Back out on bike, and headed to Maredo for Schnitzel Wiener and a pils, nom nom!
Meandered over to people's palace (zwinger garten?) to wander around through the courtyard, found the pond with leaping fish, and left the bike to walk around.
Came back to the flat and got stuff together to walk to Neustadt bahnhof.
Enjoyed basking in the sun before train, I have opted for the 1722 train, I should get to enjoy some Saxon scenery on way to Leipzig :)
Heidi das Schielende Opossum is tomorrow! Yay!
Nünchritz has a huge chemical/electricity factory
Got to Leipzig, seems very modern station, with underground shopping mall!
Hopped on tram to Mockau ... 7 stops to Löbauer Straße and the hostel :)
First impressions when I got off the tram was "I wouldn't want to live here", youths hanging around a Rewe store because there's nothing better to do. The route to the hostel felt quite dark/unsafe.
I got to the hostel to learn that Heidi died today :(
First impressions of the hostel was (despite it being a bit far out of town) that it seemed well equipped. No wi-fi hotspot is available though; even Prague managed to provide wifi! This makes planning alternative next to impossible, come on Leipzig get your act together!
As the hostel is far out of the centre I asked about places for food. El Toro was recommended by the hostel staff which I found after a few mins walk. Paella por favor! Si señor! (Not very German but it's a long way to the city centre and I couldn't find the tram stop :-p )
Beers tried:
Radeberger: fairly normal pilsner
Radler: v fruity
Meal arrives: HUGE! Delicious! So much of it!
*much munching later* Defeated by a plate of food! Well and trully replete! The Radler complemented it well.
I think I'll waddle back to the hostel now and try not to break the bed with all the extra weight I've surely put on!
