I met Long again today, as he advised me that the bike was now ready to be checked. I headed to the hostel, and then he drove me to District 2 on it.
This location is completely devoid of any buildings, as it is being redevelopped, so the main road through it is almost completely empty - if there's nothing to see or go to, there's no need for traffic!
The first thing he wanted to do was make sure that I could balance on the bike, which was easy for me thanks to the amount of cycling I do.
I practiced starting off and riding up and down the road, slowly getting confidence enough to get in to 4th gear, though I am sure I was not going particularly fast!
While I am riding, I notice that there is a knocking sound whenever I am in 3rd gear, and Long tried to assure me that he had asked the mechanics who had told him it was fine and nothing to worry about.
I was still quite nervous about operating the bike, and stalled a couple of times while doing maneouvres like u-turns, at one point almost bumping in to someone as I had not got used to the clutch control yet.
I got back to where Long was waiting, and he recommended that I do some figure eights near the crossroads section, so I spent 30 minutes or so doing this, slowly becoming more confident about it, though not confident enough to ride back to the hostel just yet.
Long took me back via a workshop, where they advised they did not have the right parts to fix the speedometer on it, and he asked if I wanted the bike or not. I decided that I do want the bike, as the lights all worked and brakes, and he advised me that if the gear box stopped working, he would cover the cost of a new one.
