A couple of guys from the hostel decided to get a motorbike to head up to the Wat Prathat Doi Suthep temple, and take a walk in the national park.
I joined them, and navigated them out of the town, avoiding the police stop.
The first attempt wasn't so successful however, due to the fact that the road didn't join up so we had to find an alternative route.
Once we made it out of the main drag from town, we headed to the Pha Ngoeb and Wang Bua Ban waterfall walk.
The views were very nice, and some of the trekking was a bit of a scramble, with steep drop offs which made me nervou, but I managed to make it through, then we headed to the national park entrance.
There was a charge to enter, which I was happy to pay, however the others didn't want to pay, so we headed to the next viewpoint along the road and grabbed some lunch.
The next stop was the temple, which had a large number of steps to the top, and a huge golden stupa in the middle of it, with views over Chiang Mai.
We then searched for the path using maps.me, and made our way through the jungle.
There was a huge vine tree which made for a great photo opportunity, and we joked with each other about scorpions and ants and snakes.
After having joked about it, we did come across a small black scorpion, which we are pretty sure is the type that /really/ hurts if it stings you - so good job we didn't accidentally stand on it!
The first waterfall was very picturesque, and well worth the trek, even if I had managed to catch my sandle on a branch and it fell apart!
One thing that made it special was that there was nobody else at all on the path, so it really felt like we were deep in the jungle.
We made our way to the next waterfall, but got confused by the path and ended up having to double back, with more scrambling and using vines to climb the rocks - a real adventure!
After this, we headed back to the bikes, grabbed some smoothies, and then decided to head to the summit of the mountain to watch the sunset.
The other guy went back at this point as didn't want to see the view, and found the road too tricky to manage, but we kept going, and definitely noticed the cold due to the extra elevation that we had.
The sunset was very definitely worth the extra 10 minutes, and we enjoyed some Selfies - a chocolate wafer snack in the shape of a stick - selfie sticks!
We headed back to the hostel after this, with the temperature noticably improving as we got back to normal elevations.
After getting sorted out at the hostel, we joined up with a group from another hostel, and headed to the night market in the old town.
This had a plethora of food, and lots of places selling the noisy frog carvings. As there was already several in the family I decided not to buy any!
I had a Skype call scheduled, and so we headed back to the old town hostel and I spent an hour or so chatting with Dad, Sara, Colin, and Ali, before rejoining the group in search of a Karaoke bar.
This effort proved to be fruitless, but we did find a bar with live music so stopped in there.
After a bit of discussion though we decided to head back to the old town hostel and make our own karaoke after grabbing some beers at the 7-11.
