After seeing a really nice sun rise from the train, and enjoying the green and mountainous terrain as we approached Chiang Mai, the train arrived at around lunch time.
I took a Tuktuk to the hostel after barganing a price, and then checked in.
The hostel was nice and had a lot of different tour options available, and I spotted that there was an elephant sanctuary one, where the elephants are rescued from being working animals, or injured by land mines on the Myanmar and Cambodia borders.
I asked about booking on to that, and was advised it was fully booked until the 15th of December so I gave up on the idea, and headed to the room to get some better sleep thaan I had managed to achieve on the train.
After a couple of hours, the receptionist came in to the room to advise me that a place had opened up on the elephant sanctuary tour, and to ask if I wanted to take it, so I confirmed I did, and got my reservation - how lucky is that?!
