I had a lazy morning, and went on an afternoon trip to Shifen today.
It was not as busy as the train had been to the Old Street, and as I knew my way by now, it wasn't quite so hectic.
I changed trains at Ruifang, and then on to Shifen. Once I got there, I realised how infrequent the trains in the area were, by virtue of the fact that the track was crowded by people letting lanterns loose, from the rail road track.
I walked to the falls, which was a quiet experience, though the road itself was a bit busy to cross, and though it was not quite raining, there was a downpour as I disembarked from the train, so I hid under the roof to let it pass.
The road to the falls looked to be closed, as there was a police stop and barrier, though it seemed to be just for motor traffic, as pedestrians were allowed to pass, so I made my way on to the path.
There were plenty of people also at the falls, as it is a rather nice view - the high humidity and cold weather meant that the spray from the falls hung in the air in an atmospheric way.
As I made my way back up the river along the bank, there were plenty of great views, and bridges across rapids which provided ample photo opportunities.
I made it back to Shifen town and got the train back to Ruifang and then onwards to Ximen station in Taipei, where I headed back to the hostel.
By this point, I was getting quite familiar with the town names - expecialy since most of the districts from Ruifang were just numbers!
