Early start today, and frying up all the sausages in a wok. Used them all and made up enough sandwiches for breakfast and lunch!
I was ready to go at around 9.30am, but decided to wait for the others, and we ll left at around 10am.
I decided to take my jacket and leave my tripod behind, as I wasn't sure I was going to be able to get much use of the tripod - the staff at the office had advised us that there was no real view from the summit, since it was still in the jungle.
The way up was sunny, and we saw lots of lots of centipedes and a millipede, not to mention the countless numbers of ant trails that crossed our path.
There were a number of waterfalls we could visit on the way up, and we decided to skip the first one but checked out the others, resulting in some good photo opportunities.
It was quite tough going, and at one point we almost lost the trail, which was made up of white and red paint on the trees - some of it seemed to even be fresh paint!
About 30 minutes before we reached the top, it started to rain, and being in the jungle did not seem to really help with keeping us protected and dry, so I was glad that I had taken my rainjacket.
We made it to the top, and took quick photos, before immediately heading back down. We decided to take abit of shelter at the first waterfall on the way back (last waterfall on the way up), and there were some other people there also taking shelter from the rain.
The water level of the falls was markedly different, so I decided to take more photos as a before/afer option.
We made it back to the hostel area at around 4pm, which was the time we had given as the estimate - it was surprising that it had taken so long, since it wasn't that much distance for the hike, though it was a lot of ascent!
I grabbed a quick nap, and then headed in to town to the new food court that I'd eaten at yesterday. On the way out, I spotted a single firefly, and was surprised not to see any others.
I had the Laksa Sarawak at the food court, and this was much tastier and richer than the Laksa I had eaten in Kuching, so is a definite recommendation if you come to Lundu!
While I was taking a photo of the Laksa, I noticed that there was condensation on the inside of the camera lens for the phone, which meant that it had become water damaged in my waterproof jacket. I was not best pleased about this, but since it was functioning, I decided to turn it off, and when I got back to the dorm room, I tied the phone to the room fan for the night to try and drive the water out.
