I didn't sleep well last night, on account of the arty that went on until 3am, but managed to get myself sorted for the ferry trip OK anyway.
Kim arranged to go for a walk up Bukit Penangwith Faye and Fatima, and we said our goodbyes.
I made my way to the ferry, via the food court beside Cornwallis, and checked in and boarded the speed cat.
We were around 20 minutes late for departure, and at this point it became clear that the seat I had been assigned, was double booked with someone else who was with a group. She started to demand of the ferry crew that they call the office to find out how such a thing could happen, and he had to explain that they were already leaving so that calling the office wasn't happening.
I decided that I would be willing to move seats i it came to it, and then the crew member asked me if I was willing to move to a seat on the upper deck. At this point, it was apparent that there was an unhappy young passenger o this level anyway, so I gave up my seat willingly!
As it was a 3 hour boat journey, we were treated to a movie to watch on the way over.
The movie was "Baahubali 2: The Conclusion.". Despite it being the second part, I don't think I really needed to have seen the first movie, as they gave a recap. It got more and more silly as the movie progressed, with the skills of the protaganists and antagonists being more than superhuman, and with some of the characters being caught in the middle, influencing the plot but despite causing bad things to happen, not really being the bad person.
The movie concluded just as we were approaching Langkawi, and I was rewarded by splendid view of forest covered islands in the bay as we approached the main port.
I spent while trying to find a bus to get to the hostel, which was on the other side of the island from the port, and soon realised that there was o such thing on Langkawi!
I also failed to get a grab, though the taxi driver at the port was willing to give me a fare that was close enough to the grab fare, so I did that, and made my way to the Tipsy Gipsy.
There was nobody at reception when I arrived, but someone else there advised I could just leave my bags in the room, so I did just that, and met another guest who advised that while she had also booked the 14 bed dorm, since there was nobody else there, she was allowed to use one of the 4 bed rooms for herself.
I took this as permission to take one of the other empty 4 bed rooms, and took my stuff in there to set up base.
Later on in the evening the person doing reception knocked on the door, and I was able to confirm it was ok to pay what I had booked, and still use the aller room!
I also took the time to check out the diving prices for the area, but soon discovered that as advised by other travellers that I had met, Langkawi itself was ot good for diving, and that all diving adventures required a long boat trip to get to the good sites, resulting in it being vey expensive!
