I headed to the old town today to find a good deal for food, and located Sekeping Kong Heng, a local restoran that served all manner of delicious food.
It was very busy with people when I arrived, and I was lucky to manage to get a table just as another group was leaving, and then I was soon joined by other locals at the table. We chatted and made friends with each other, taking selfies, and I also got a polaroid type photo as a souvenir.
After enjoying the meal, and trying Popiah for free, I wandered down Columbine lane, which was like a mini china-town type market, and back to the hostel.
Kim arrived in Ipoh today too, so I had made arrrangements to meet up with him, though his phone ran out of power pretty much as soon as he arrived in the bus station.
Once he finally got back in touch, we had just enough time to go and visit one of the cave temples, so we met up at Mari hostel, and shared a grab there.
We headed to Perak Tong, Perak being the region we were in, and has chinese characters meaning thunder clap.
We only just arrived in time to see it, as it closed at 5, not 6 as I had thought, but we got some photos in and had a good look around.
For the way back, there was no grab available to start with, and as we waited, a tour bus arrived at the temple. We commented to ourselves about the fact that the bus had arrived just in time for the passengers to be able to see nothing but the outside of the temple!
We finally managed to hail a grab, and headed back to the hostel, where we woke Rach up from his evening snooze to find out where the good place to buy cheap beer was.
Beer in hand, we headed to the indian nasi goren place, and enjoyed our meal with beer, catching up on everything we had been up to in the intervening months.
I also took the opportunity to call th High Commission today, as it had been two weeks since my passport left the UK, and I was anxious to establish hether or not it had arrived yet or not.
I had been trying throughout the previous few days, but ended up with a recorded message stating that the office was closed (most likely due to Hari Raya), so today was the first day I got through.
After convincing the person at the other end that I was in fact allowed to send my passport there, and that it had ben all arranged, I was advised that they had not received it, and they would contact me when they did.
