After an early start and some fried eggs on toast for breakfast, we made sure we had water, and headed off on our way to Juara. We headed south and made our way along the coast, over a new walk way round the rocks, and then past the first pier and eventually finding our way to the road that led to the mosque for Tekek.
After checking with the locals we managed to find our way on to the jungle path over the pass. The path was fairly well kept, and seemed to also be a maintenance access for the power line that followed the whole route. I started to appreciate that I was not as fit as I used to be, and was pretty much at the limit of what I could do without being totally out of breath, but it was good to be doing exercise again properly after having been ill and unable to do so!
We made it to the top of the pass, where there was a pool and signs saying no swimming or fishing or indeed doing anything that might impact the water, due to it being the water supply for the west side of the island.
Once we reached the road, it became very steep, and we mused about the fact that it would not be easy on the way back.
We stopped off on a quick detour to go to Ali's Waterfall, wehre we met two Germans who were enjoying the pool to swim in. The waterfall wasn't very high but very picturesque and idyllic.
We continued on our way and were soon in Juara, after having walked about 2.5 hours. We found a restaurant called Paradise Point, and grabbed some Nasi for food, and then after letting it settle, went to swim in the sea.
To start with I was a little tentative about going in the water, as I am so used to the sea being so cold in Scotland, but once I put my feet in I realised that it was very warm! We swam for a length and back along the beach and then showered on the beach side and decided it was time to head back.
On the way back, we discovered that the road was very busy with traffic, so rather than going by the main road like Kim had first intended, we came back by the path again. Once we reached the Masjid, we took a left at the end of the road instead, and headed to the uty free shop to buy some well earned cold beers. These we enjoyed at the nearby restaurant, with some Nasi Goreng Daging (beef).
From Juara to Tekek had taken about 2 hours, and then we headed back to the SPBC site and retired to the chalets.
