Raine had a day off today, so we started off by going to enjoy the view from the top of the Sky Tower together, and musing about the fact that we couldn't go for a swim in the pool.
The weather was still not very sunny, but it was quite warm none the less - I think my body must be getting used ot the cooler temperatures again!
After we had had our fill of the views from the top of the Marina Bay Sands hotel, we mused about what to do for lunch, and the idea was for Raine to make me some hme made Sinigang na Baboy at her place. We went there via the supermarket, and I entertained everyone at the flat with guitar while the lunch was made. It was delicious to say the least!
We made our way by bus to the botanic gardens after this, and after getting off a bus stop too late (one past the british consulate), we walked around to the main entrance.
We wandered around the gardens and enjoyed taking photos of the fishes and the plants. Raine wanted some photos based at a Gazebo but by the time we made it there, a pre-wedding shoot was going on and we couldn't use the area, so we went on, and discovered an area with two person swings, which we delighted in using to swing high!
We eventually found the Orchid Garden, where it transpired that there was an entrance fee, but as we got to the main gate, we found there was a special promotion going on - residents of Singapore get free entry due to the chinese New Year celebrations! After the person at the gate heard us mulling over how to deal with the fact that only one of us was resident, they let us both in anyway for free - Win!
There were many sections to the Orchid Garden, and we learned lots including the fact that Pineapples were a member of the Bromeliaceae family of plants, and the fact that the most inappropriate looking orchid was called Paphiopedilum Maudiae!
At the top of the orchid section was a garden with plants that had been dedicated to various famous people, including prime ministers of various countries. We hunted for relevant plants to our own places, and I discovered ones to Margaret Thatcher and Lady Diana.
After the walk through the orchid Garden we bought some ice cream, and as the light was failing, made our way to the entrance closest to the MRT station, which was still a bit of a walk. Most of the junctions did not have any signs so we ended up getting lost a few times, and it appeared as though we were not the only ones to do so!
Just before we found the exit, Raine spotted a gorgeous Samoyed dog, and managed to get permission from the owners to be photographed and cuddle with her. Ribbon (The Samoyed) was very accomodating, and at one years old was almost fully grown. She's now an instagram star, as the photo was uploaded, and lots of InstaSamoyed members responded!
