Today I read the news about the incident in Melbourne where a driver had run down several pedestrians at Bourke Street Mall. I felt quite upset about that, and reached out to my newly aquired Australian friends, some of whom were still in Melbourne.
I was relieved to find that nobody I knew was affected by the events, but I still felt quite shaken, so decided to go for a walk before meeting with my internet friend Raine for dinner.
I found my way to Boat Quay, where I met a greek travel agency person who was in Singapore for a conference about tourism. He gave me some tips about places to visit in Borneo, which I had previously ruled out, so I added them to my Google maps.
I liased with Raine and we agreed to meet at City Hall MRT station, and then make our way to find somewhere we could get Nasi Padang, which Raine assured me was a local dish to try.
We ended up going a bit out of the way (as I found out later, almost every food court did it!!), but I was surprised by how cheap the meal ended up being.
We nded the evening with a walk along the river banks, where I found out that they pronounce "Quay" for "Clark Quay" correctly ("Key"), but for Boat Quay they pronounce is "Kway" ... there must have been different people on duty when each set of recordings was made for the MRT train service!
