The plan had been that we leave at 8am on the dot, so I got up at 6.45 and grabbed a shower before making breakfast for myself. I helped pack the trailer, which helped keep us on schedule, and we were only 5 minutes late leaving!
As we set off, a message came through from Justine, who was on her way to Kangaroo Island - Terry was the driver to the ferry! She let all of us (The TTT members) that Katherine had been asking the same question about what snake was seen at Kings Creek site, and was still asking the question!
The first stop for the Ocean Road tour group was Maits Rest rainforest walk at 9.10.
We were told to keep our eyes open for the carnivorous snail. We all posed for a photo in an arching tree and I asked some questions of our guide about some mud piles, which she advised were made by land yabbies.
We did find a younger carnivorous snail but it didn't have the full shell markings yet, but we took photos anyway!
I also managed to find out that the spider at the car park in Kings Canyon was an orb spider, and that the large spider I saw Stoney Creek campsite was a wolf spider!
We left the rainforest at 10, and made it to Apollo bay for 1017. We grabbed some more breakfast here and enjoyed watching some surfers get lessons in the bay.
We left at 11 and made our way to Kennett River Holiday Park, where we got to feed some king parrots and Crimson Rosellas, resulting in some great photos. There were also some Koalas in the trees but too far away to get any good shots.
We headed to lorne for lunch, and found out that the population goes from 1500 normal level, to up to 70k people during peak holiday season. As it was almost that just now, being new year and mid summer holiday time, the traffic was already very high and forming a line in the other direction!
Lunch was wraps with all the left overs at had to be eaten as it was the last day!
We left just after 2pm, and ade it to the road sign for the Great Ocean Road, where we took a final group photo, and hen headed on our way towards Melbourne.
Just after 3 we had a mini panic as we had to screech to a halt to avoid running over an echidna that was merily crossing the road oblivious to all traffic. We were too slow for a hoto, but it was exciting none the less!
Shortly after that, around 3.30pm, made it to Bells beach which afforded some good views of surfers - most of the people were mediocre surfers (I say that while being completely unable to surf!), but there was one or two worth catching on the waves.
By now we were almost at Torquay, where we made another stop so that people could go to the surf shop factory outlets and get cheap designer gear at factory prices! I didn't buy anything, but did check in the tourist information for anything that I might be able to do with Shiho, who I had arranged to meet in just over a week's time.
We spent an hour there and then headed in to Melbourne proper ... as we had all exchanged contact details we agreed to stay in touch to do some more things in Melbourne together over the next few days.
There was no great rush though, so I enjoyed a lazy evening and looked forwards to another lazy long lie in the morning!
