I had a nice lazy wake up, and after a breakfast of toast + jam, went with Heath to the Cataract Gorge. This was an amazing place to view, that was seriously flooded at the start of the year.
The first point of note was the top end of the chair lift ride, where there was an adult and a young Wallaby - I named the adult 'Bob' because of the way he moved, and the young one 'Tony' because it was tiny. Prior to that there were plenty of Peacocks, all shouting at each other to get attention, though not being native to Tasmania, I was more interested in the wallabies we could see.
We took the route up to the Eagle's Lookout, where Heath pointed out the Ben Lomond national park area on the horizon.
On the way we had come to a fork in the path, so decided to follow that for a bit to see where it went. We saw many skinks, who were eager to bask in the sun on the hot rocks to get warm!
The path kept going and didn't seem to be reaching anywhere, so we took the sighting of a blue bottle wasp as a sign to turn back and make our way to the cafe area.
There were more photo opportunities going across the suspension bridge, which had signs specifically saying to not swing the bridge, though this didn't seem to deter some young kids who were determined to bounce it around! We stopped off at the BBQ area to drink from a water fountain, crossed the wier, and headed back.
When we got back to the house, it was time to head to a BBQ that ad been arranged for a while for Jessica and heath to go to. I got to meet several people there and chatted about my plans, getting advice from some people who had been in Asia multiple times.
At one point, I looked at the moon and noticed that it was fuller than a few nights before, which confused me a little bit, until it dawned on me that actually it was waxing and the confusion from then made sense - it waxes and wanes the other way - which would explain why it looked like 6 weeks had passed since the 13th, rather than 3 and a bit!
It was quite dark by the time we left the BBQ and went back to go to bed, and Jessica reported 3 mosquito bites, despite having worn some insect repellant - I had managed to get away without wearing any!
